Muscle Diseases

The Muscle Working Group (WG) brings together experts and clinicians committed to advancing the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of myopathies. The group meets bimonthly to coordinate activities, share updates, and foster collaboration across Europe.

The visibility and impact of the WG are driven by a series of concrete and dynamic initiatives, including:

  • Webinars: A total of 10 webinars are scheduled for 2025, focusing on the Management and Treatment of Myopathies. These online sessions aim to spread knowledge and best practices across the neuromuscular community.

  • Flowcharts: After the publication of flowcharts in 2024 on Myotonic Dystrophies and Rhabdomyolysis, the WG aims to deliver three new diagnostic/treatment flowcharts in 2025, covering Pompe disease, Facioscapulohumeral dystrophy (FSHD), and Myositis.

  • Grand Rounds: One Grand Round is planned for 2025, creating an opportunity for real-life case-based discussion with international experts.

  • ENMC Workshops: Several WG members actively contribute to international neuromuscular research through their participation in six ENMC workshops in 2024.

  • Annual Muscle WG Meeting: During the upcoming March 2025 annual meeting, presentations will highlight new developments, including:

    • Kristl Claeys on gene therapy in myopathies

    • Madelon Kroneman on physical training in adults with myopathies

    • Sabrina Sacconi on a digital holistic care project

    • Silke Schlueter on the patient journey in myositis

  • Inter-WG Collaboration: Muscle WG members are involved in cross-cutting initiatives such as the Post-Graduate Curriculum and Transition of Care programs, reflecting the integrative spirit of the ERN framework.

  • Summer School in Marseille: The WG is also proud of the active participation of several members in the Summer School in Marseille, emphasizing its commitment to education and the next generation of neuromuscular specialists.

Together, these activities demonstrate the Muscle WG’s sustained efforts to promote multidisciplinary collaboration, continuous learning, and improved patient care throughout Europe.
