Prof. Dr. Kristl Claeys

Kristl Claeys, MD, PhD, is a neurologist specialised in neuromuscular disorders working at the Laboratory for Muscle Diseases and Neuropathies, UZ Leuven, Belgium. In Leuven, she is affiliated with the largest Neuromuscular Reference Centre in Belgium, together with her colleague and neuromuscular neurologist Philip Van Damme. Kristl Claeys is appointed as associate Professor at the University of Leuven (KU Leuven). Following her training in neurology, Kristl Claeys further specialized at the Institute of Myology at the Salpétriêre Hospital in Paris, France, from 2007 until the end of 2009. At the Institute of Myology, she was affiliated with the Neuromuscular Reference Centre and the Neuromuscular Morphology Unit. She obtained the Diploma of Myologist at the University Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris in 2008. From 2010 until the end of 2015, she worked as a neuromuscular specialist at the Department of Neurology and the Institute of Neuropathology at the RWTH University Hospital in Aachen, Germany. Since 2016, Prof. dr. Kristl Claeys is heading the Laboratory for Muscle Diseases and Neuropathies at the Department of Neurosciences at KU Leuven. Her research topics are clinical research and genetics in neuromuscular disorders, with a focus on hereditary muscle diseases. She also has a special interest in translational medicine in neuromuscular disorders. Kristl Claeys is an author on around 90 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and wrote several book chapters, on diverse topics in the field of neuromuscular disorders.
