The muscular dystrophies are a heterogeneous group of inherited disorders mainly characterized by progressive weakness and degeneration of skeletal muscles. In a proportion of individuals with muscular dystrophy the weakness is associated with epilepsy, representing a significant symptom with a serious impact on patients’ quality of life. In this webinar we will show the types of muscular dystrophies most frequently associated with epilepsy. Epilepsy onset and evolution, including seizure types, EEG features, and response to antiepileptic therapies, will be discussed.
