Exciting opportunity to join the EMQN Team as a Volunteer Assessor for the new Neuromuscular Disorders (NMDs) EQA Scheme
The EMQN team is pleased to share a unique opportunity to become a volunteer assessor for our newly developed External Quality Assessment (EQA) scheme for neuromuscular disorders (NMDs). This new initiative has been developed in collaboration with EURO-NMD and aims to improve the quality and consistency of genetic testing and reporting for NMDs across laboratories.
We are currently recruiting 1–2 assessors with significant expertise in genetic testing for NMDs, including the interpretation and reporting of findings in clinical contexts. Applicants may come from either a clinical science or academic research background.
Role summary
EMQN will provide full training for successful candidates. Once trained, assessors will be expected to commit to the role for three successive years, with an estimated annual time commitment of 3–5 days, which includes:
-
8–16 hours (spread over approximately 4 weeks between mid-March and mid-April) to assess laboratory reports.
-
2 days for the annual assessment meeting (held at the end of April). The format of this meeting alternates yearly between online and in-person.
🗓️ Note:
New assessors will start with the 2026 EQA round, beginning in March 2026.
The 2026 assessment meeting will be held online, and the 2027 meeting will be in person.
🔎 Additional responsibilities include reviewing appeals against scoring submitted by laboratories following publication of the EQA results.
What are the benefits?
-
💼 Reimbursement of travel, accommodation, and meal expenses for in-person meetings.
