…PRESENTERS: Pieter van Doorn (Erasmus MC University Medical Centre Rotterdam)
Pieter van Doorn is a neurologist and clinical neurophysiologist trained at Erasmus MC, specializing in neuromuscular diseases. Appointed as a full professor in 2002, his focus is on immune-mediated disorders. His PhD research, completed cum laude in 1990, explored the use of intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIg) in chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) and extended to Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) and other polyneuropathies.
In 2013, he initiated a project to identify risk factors for chronic axonal polyneuropathy in collaboration with Prof. Arfan Ikram. He is also dedicated to Pompe disease research at the Erasmus MC Pompe Expertise Center, aiming to advance understanding and treatment of this metabolic muscle disorder.
He has led numerous clinical studies, contributed to international guidelines for GBS and CIDP, and served as President of the Peripheral Nerve Society (PNS).
