Jana Zschüntzsch

Jana Zschüntzsch is a consultant of neurology at the Clinic for Neurology, spokesperson of the Neuromuscular Center, and spokesperson for the integrated Myasthena Gravis Center (iMZ) at the University Medical Center, Göttingen. She received her M.D. in 2007 from the University of Göttingen and underwent postgraduate training focusing on neuron–glia interaction in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Prof. Clemens Neusch) and on pathomechanisms of inflammatory and inherited myopathies (Prof. Jens Schmidt). She received the “venia legendi for Neurology” in 2021 and is leading the neuromuscular disease research group. The research focuses on pathogenesis and translational development of treatment for neuromuscular disorders, with a particular interest in muscular dystrophy and inflammatory myopathies. The group is also performing clinical studies aiming to shorten the time to diagnosis for rare diseases by using digital and new imaging technologies. For this, she was given a grant by the Horizon-2020: IMI2-2020-23-05 (https://www.screen4care.eu). She was part of the German Muscle Society (DGM) organizing committee in 2019. She was awarded the Felix–Jerusalem junior prize for muscle research in Germany by DGM in 2013 and with the “Very Important Publication” prize at the UMG for experimental DMD treatment. She holds memberships for DGN, DGM, and MYOSITIS NETZ e.V. She is an honorary member of the Mongolian Neurological Society and a charter Member of iMyoS.
