Hospital UIP La Fe - Valencia

The clinical and research unit for neuromusculardiseases at La Fe Hospital is a reference center in the Valencia Autonomous Community composed by a multidisciplinary team that addresses the patient in a holistic approach (organic, emotional and social), providing resources and highly specialized instruments to meet the patients.

Our unit has a long tradition in the diagnosis, evaluation and research of genetic neuropathies and musculardystrophies, a field in which works closely joined with the Genetic Departments of both La Fe Hospital and Principe Felipe Research Centre (CIPF) in Valencia. We alsohave our own laboratory of neuromuscular pathology and cell biology that acts as a reference for diagnose, working in close collaboration with other hospitals and health centers in Valencia. Likewise, we count with highly specialized resources for neurophysiological studies and neuromuscular image.

Our organization is members of the Spanish Biomedical Research Center network for Rare Diseases (CIBERER) composed by research groups of excellence. This network is supported by an official agency (Instituto Carlos III) of the Spanish Health Ministry. We have been leading a Spanish network of clinical researchers in different Spanish hospitals within the European project TREAT-CMT International Consortium of Rare Diseases (IRDiRC).We also lead and coordinate a network of rare neuromuscular diseases in the area of Valencia promoted by the Valencia Health Department.

Our center has been actively participating in the development of international clinical trials in the field of neuromuscular diseases. We have been participating in the development of Spanish and International clinical guidelines on neuromuscular diseases, and has also been participating in the creation of a Spanish neuromuscular register promoted by CIBERER that is integrated into the TREAT-NMD European network.We cooperate with European proje! cts to g enetic research as MYO-SEQUENCE and muscular image (MYORNM).
