Dr. Femke Klouwer

Dr. Femke C.C. Klouwer is a consultant pediatric and adult neurologist at Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) and a member of the Pediatric Neuromuscular Center of the Willem-Alexander Children’s Hospital at LUMC, the Dutch Expert Center for Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy (DMD/BMD), Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy (LGMD), and neuromuscular junction diseases. She provides multidisciplinary care for children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and a broad spectrum of other neuromuscular diseases. Her clinical work focuses on the treatment and long-term management of children with rare neuromuscular disorders. Dr. Klouwer obtained her PhD from the University of Amsterdam with a thesis on a neurometabolic disorder (Zellweger spectrum disorders) and completed her training in neurology and pediatric neurology at Amsterdam UMC. Her current research focuses primarily on Duchenne muscular dystrophy, with a particular interest in Health Technology Assessment (HTA) research and the evaluation of emerging therapies.
