Andrés Nascimento Osorio

- Coordinator of the Neuromuscular Pathology Unit of the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona.

Dr. Andrés Nascimento was born in Caracas-Venezuela, where he studied at the Medicine School of Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV) and graduated in 1997. In 2001, he finished his postgraduate degree in Paediatrics at Universidad Central de Venezuela. In 2002 he obtained a scholarship from the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation (AECI) and moved to Barcelona to pursue a master’s degree in Neuropaediatrics (2002 -2004) at Sant Joan de Déu Hospital -University of Barcelona. rnrnIn 2012 he obtained a scholarship to expand his studies abroad and underwent a formative stay in paediatric electromyography at the Neurophysiology Service of the Hospital of the Great Ormmon Street (GOSH) in London with Dr. Mattews Pitt and later in the University of New Castle in the Mitochondrial unit with Dr. Robert Taylor and the Neuromuscular Diseases Unit of the Center for Life in the UK. rnrnSince 2012 he has been dedicated to the clinical, electromyographic, genetics and anatomopathological diagnosis of paediatric patients with neuromuscular diseases at the Neuromuscular Unit of Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona. He is coordinator of the unit comprehensive treatment of neuromuscular patient (UTIN), with a multidisciplinary approach. He is principal investigator of international trials in connection with Duchenne muscular dystrophy who are coming into the HSJD. He is a clinical collaborator in various translational research projects within the CIBERER. From the standpoint of care it is in charge of the diagnosis and monitoring of patients. It is responsible for electromyography study, skin and muscle biopsies in patients who need it in the diagnostic process of monitoring and coordination with various specialists from the UTIN.
