ERDERA pre-announces 2027 Joint Transnational Call on recently identified rare diseases

The European Rare Diseases Research Alliance (ERDERA) has pre-announced its 2027 Joint Transnational Call, “Catalysing Collaborative Research for Recently Identified Rare Diseases”, expected to open on 1 December 2026.

This funding opportunity aims to support international, multidisciplinary research collaborations focusing on recently identified rare diseases that remain understudied, helping to build the scientific knowledge needed for future therapeutic development.

Supporting Research into Understudied Rare Diseases

The call will focus on rare diseases first reported in scientific literature on or after 1 January 2010, with an emphasis on four key research areas:

  • Natural history studies and patient registries
  • Identification and validation of biomarkers
  • Development of computational, cellular or animal disease models
  • Investigation of disease mechanisms

The initiative encourages collaboration between researchers, clinicians, institutions and patient organisations, with patient representatives expected to be actively involved from the proposal development stage.

  • 14 December 2026: Information webinar for applicants (15:00–16:00 CET)
