Umesh Badrising

Dr. Umesh Badrising has been a staff neurologist at the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) since 2017, specializing in neuromuscular diseases. He obtained his medical degree from Leiden University and completed his neurology residency at LUMC. In 2006, he was awarded a PhD for his dissertation titled “Inclusion Body Myositis: A Nationwide Study.”

Between 2004-2017, he worked at the Van Weel-Bethesda Hospital, where he also served as a board member of the Medical Staff Association.

Dr. Badrising’s current work focuses primarily on scientific research into inclusion body myositis and facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy, as well as on improving care for patients with these conditions. He previously served as a member of the Medical Ethics Committee Leiden–The Hague–Delft. He is an active participant in the Myositis Network Netherlands, a board member of the Dutch Neuromuscular Centre and the EURO-NMD European Reference Network, and a medical advisor to the Dutch Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases.

In addition, as coordinator of neurology interns, he is responsible for their education and training within the LUMC regional training network.
