PhD Florence van Tienen

Florence van Tienen is assistant professor at the department of Translation Genomics at Maastricht University (The Netherlands). Her research focuses on development of an autologous myogenic stem cell therapy for patients with mitochondrial myopathy due to a mtDNA mutation. To this end, she is coordinating clinical studies to assess efficacy of autologous mesoangioblasts as cell-therapy medicinal product in m.3243A>G mutation carriers. In parallel, in vitro studies are being performed to develop techniques to eliminate the mtDNA mutation in myogenic stem cells and improve the cell therapy medicinal product.
