Chiara Panicucci

I graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Genoa, where I also obtained a specialization in Pediatrics and a Ph.D. in Pediatric Sciences. During my education I focused on basic research projects dedicated to defining the inflammatory processes that characterize muscular dystrophies, first at the School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences of the University of Portsmouth (UK) and later at the Charité Institute in Berlin.

Upon returning to Italy, since 2018 I have been working at the IRCCS Giannina Gaslini Institute in Genoa, at the UOSD Center for Translational and Experimental Myology directed by Prof. Claudio Bruno. Here, my research is aimed at identifying new biomarkers and defining pathogenic processes of some rare neuromuscular diseases such as muscular dystrophies and spinal muscular atrophy, as well as testing new therapeutic approaches in animal and cellular models of these diseases.
