Christiaan Saris

“Christiaan Saris is a consultant neurologist and clinical neurophysiologist at the department of Neurology, Radboud University Medical Center Nijmegen, the Netherlands. He studied one year medicine at the University of Hasselt, Belgium and continued medicine in the Netherlands where he received his M.D. degree at the Radboud University Nijmegen in 2005. In 2013, he obtained his PhD degree at University Medical Center Utrecht, based on a thesis entitled “”Genomic biomarkers and genetic risk factors in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis””. He was trained as a neurologist between 2005-2014 at University Medical Center Utrecht and received additional training as neuromuscular specialist at the Radboud University Medical Center Nijmegen, the Netherlands (with Prof. B. van Engelen). His research focuses on the improvement of diagnostics, understanding the pathophysiology and treatment of inflammatory myopathies including inclusion body myositis (IBM) and mitochondrial diseases, in particular mitochondrial myopathies. The Radboud Muscle Center and Radboud Center for Mitochondrial Medicine (RCMM) are Dutch Federation of University Medical Centers (NFU) centers of excellence and part of the European Reference Network neuromuscular diseases.” |
